A native Houstonian and longtime resident of Houston’s West University neighborhood, down the street from the Texas Medical Center (TMC), Richard Simon has personally witnessed the Texas Children's Hospital Medical Center Campus transform from the one, three-story hospital building that first opened in 1954 to the bustling complex it is today.
Beyond the many changes to the TMC skyline, Richard possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of his hometown history thanks to his family’s deep ties to Houston. His father established Simon Printing Company in Houston in 1935. After initially pursuing a career in banking, Richard joined the family business at the age of 26 following his father’s untimely passing. Richard and his brother then helmed the company for many years, and Simon Printing is still thriving today as a fourth-generation family-owned business.
Throughout his time at Simon Printing and into his retirement, Richard has been a dedicated supporter of Texas Children’s. Recently, Richard decided to also include a bequest in his will to Texas Children’s in memory of his parents, Marie and Bernard. His estate gift will provide generous support for the Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Pawsitive Play, an animal-assisted therapy program designed to enhance the emotional well-being of patients and families in the hospital.
